The Utilization of Bauxite Residue with a Calcite-Rich Bauxite Ore in the Pedersen Process for Iron and Alumina Extraction

Abstract Metallurgical grade alumina is produced worldwide through the well-known Bayer process, which unavoidably generates bauxite residue (BR, also known as red mud) in almost equal amounts to alumina. This study aims valorization of BR a smelting-reduction process obtain calcium aluminate slags that can be proper feed for recovery via Pedersen process. It investigates thermodynamics and characteristics pig iron from mixtures BR, beneficiation byproduct, lime. In this context, evolution different phases studied with advanced analytical techniques thermodynamic calculations. According results, CaO/Al 2 O 3 mass ratio within 1.3 1.4 yield more Al -containing leachable phases, such CaO·Al 12CaO·7Al . The cooling dictates amount these slower rate yields improved slag characteristics. distribution elements between metal shows separated, majority P, Cr, Ni, V are distributed iron, while S, Ti, Si mostly concentrated slags.
